Backend Engineer

We are looking for a Backend Engineer to work with our development team, product managers, and designers to ideate, brainstorm and build impressive financial features.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain APIs and web applications for maximum robustness, scalability and security.
• Test all new features and enhancements to ensure responsiveness and efficiency, troubleshoot, debug, and assist in upgrades.
• Document code to keep the team aligned.
• Help protect users’ data, confidentiality and integrity by creating security and data protection settings.
• Help build CI/CD, monitoring and testing practices.
• Work in a comfortable and rewarding environment, ensuring that the Embat culture and mission is safeguarded and spread.
• Be ready to develop skills and learn from other areas where team members have expertise.

Qualifications

• Experience scaling distributed systems with large data volumes.
• Strong knowledge of software architecture design patterns and coding best practices.
• Taking responsibility, ownership, and creating impact; advocate a quality culture.
• Comfortable with testing environments; passionate about high quality and attention to detail.
• Highly organized, can adjust priorities; understanding difference between perfect and good‑enough.
• Team player—"We" is always before "I". Versatility, humility, and willingness to collaborate.
• Ambitious: curious to learn about new tools and get to the bottom of each problem.
• Background studies related to Computer Science.
• Working proficiency in English and fluent in Spanish.
• Location: preferably Madrid or elsewhere in Spain.
• Optional: Familiarity with NodeJS, React, Redux, Storybook, Express, Cypress, Jest, MongoDB, Python, GCP, GitLab CI/CD.
• Optional: Experience with CI/CD processes and DevOps practices.
• Optional: Knowledge of test coverage tools and quality monitoring.
• Optional: Previous experience in the financial industry or fintechs.
• Optional: International experience and additional languages.
• Optional: Collaboration in open‑source projects.
