Summary of the role

Develop financial solutions to meet the unique capital needs of financial sponsors, for example M&A needs (acquisitions and disposals) that cannot typically be met by regular lending. Carry out comprehensive sector analysis, and financial and business profile analysis with a product neutral review of eligible funding alternatives and combinations to deliver multi-product financing solutions, which draw from the organization’s complete product offering.

Department overview

The Financial Sponsors Group (FSG) is a global team covering ING’s largest financial sponsor (private capital) relationships by income and exposure. Our primary responsibility is to manage these relationships, coordinating across products and geographies to explore and maximize cross-buy opportunities (at sponsor and portfolio companies’ level). This involves regular interaction with Leveraged Finance, Corporate Finance, Fund Finance, Financial Markets, Transaction Services and other Sector teams. Added to this, FSG has a secondary portfolio management function with responsibility for allocation and performance of capital, as well as tracking share of wallet and leading reciprocity discussions.

Your key responsibilities

Client coverage

• Undertake banker role for private equity, infrastructure and real estate focused selected FSG clients, with ability to have strategic discussions with senior stakeholders
• Drive selected client relationships with stakeholders on client side on a portfolio of clients to be allocated
• Liaise laterally and vertically with stakeholders, peers and juniors to drive the client dialogue, owning the relationship with the client
• Identify opportunities and ideas for clients and drive cross-buy opportunities
• Support commercial and credit committee applications
• Organize and set up internal deal teams to drive and coordinate origination

Portfolio and data management

• Supervise and contribute to account planning and performance reviews in order to allocate scarce resources in the right relationships and optimize portfolio management with the objective of delivering on KPIs
• Helping to create a center of excellence of financial sponsor activity
• Contribute to KYC onboarding and remediation efforts as part of overall client relationship

Internal Management

• In close cooperation with Acquisition Finance, Sectors and Corporate Finance, help to set the strategy for, and drive the execution of, ING’s business with your clients
• Mentor junior team members
• Ensure a culture of diversity and inclusiveness, in support of growing a profitable business
• Attract, engage, and develop talent
• Guiding, training and supervising Associates and Analysts in a deal team setting

What are we looking for?

We are looking for a pro-active professional with a strong personal drive, international experience and looking for opportunities on your own initiative. You have the ability to operate in a highly demanding environment, to deal with pressure and to perform under tight deadlines. You have a strong commercial drive and have excellent communication skills.

Experience / Knowledge

• Knowledge of relevant financial sponsor product suite with appetite to develop in particular fields
• Preferably network of existing relationships within financial sponsor universe
• Minimum 10 years’ experience primarily in investment or corporate banking, as well as Financial Markets and Transaction Services
• Credit risk experience
• Strong communication skills, track record of building relationships
• Attentive to compliance and governance issues
