The Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) is a cutting-edge institute addressing global public health challenges through research, translation into policy and education. ISGlobal has a broad portfolio in communicable and non-communicable diseases including environmental and climate determinants, and applies a multidisciplinary scientific approach ranging from the molecular to the population level. Research is organized in five programs: Climate, Air Pollution, Nature and Urban Health; Environment and Health over the Lifecourse; Global Viral and Bacterial Infections; Malaria and Neglected Parasitic Diseases and Maternal Child and Reproductive Health. WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

ISGlobal is seeking a full-time pre-doctoral researcher candidate in social epidemiology to join our dynamic and multidisciplinary Global Health Impact Assessment and Evaluation Group (IMPACThealth), and manage activities in the project IMPACTaid. The overall goal of the IMPACThealth group is to evaluate the impact of public interventions on health outcomes. The group is part of the ISGlobal Severo Ochoa (SO) programme which supports interdisciplinary science to improve the understanding of complex health problems. The group collaborates with other programmes to evaluate and model more effective interventions to advance the Sustainable Development Goals. The group also aims to maximize its research impact through advocacy activities and dynamic dialogue with policy makers and programme managers.

The predoctoral candidate will be expected to develop epidemiological analyses designed to estimate the health impact of social interventions at the local and global level, as well as the potential effects of alternative mitigation strategies. The core structure and much of the coding for these models have already been developed by our group, which will provide support on the statistical, mathematical, and epidemiological components of the modelling refinement.

The Global Health Impact Assessment and Evaluation Group is a multi-institutional, multi-country, and multidisciplinary team that brings together expertise from epidemiology, global health, economics, statistics, mathematics, and related fields.

The predoctoral candidate will also contribute to other projects within the IMPACThealth group and benefit from the expertise of a wide network of researchers and modellers across Europe, Latin America, and Sub-Saharan Africa, where the group is actively developing models and conducting studies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Conducting epidemiological studies in projects led by the IMPACThealth group.

• Supporting the development of study proposals in the area of Health Impact Assessment and Evaluation.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

• Support the coordination of activities related to the project

• Design and conduct epidemiological studies

• Prepare scientific manuscripts;

• Contribute to scientific discussion and participation in other activities in the group;

• Support the writing and organization of scientific proposals.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS

• A Degree, Specialisation, or Master in Epidemiology, Public Health, Global Health, Tropical Medicine, or related fields

• Strong expertise and solid previous experience in working in humanitarian assistance in Low and Middle-Income Countries

• Demonstrated track record of achievements including publications in peer-reviewed journals.

LANGUAGE LEVEL

• Required: written, reading, and spoken English.

• Optional: writing and reading Spanish.

CONDITIONS

• Contract: 1 year, with the possibility of extension to more years based on satisfactory performance. Part time position (30 hours per week)

• Salary: According to ISGlobal internal salary scale

• Work-Life Balance: 36 days off per year (23 vacation days + 13 personal days)

• Start date: July 2026

SELECTION PROCESS

The selection process is designed in two phases:
1- Interview phase of a technical nature, with the team that requires the incorporation. To assess the person's skills and CV.
2 - Meeting with HR with the finalist(s) to finish assessing the profile and discuss contractual and institutional issues.

If needed any technical test could be passed. A Psychological Competency Evaluation Test will be required for the structural or transversal positions.

In accordance with the OTM-R principles, a gender-balanced recruitment panel is formed for every vacancy at the beginning of the process. After reviewing the content of the applications, the panel will start the interviews, with at least one technical and one administrative interview. A profile questionnaire as well as a technical exercise may be required during the process.
