Short Term Trader - Spain (Madrid)

The Short Term Trader is responsible for optimizing Sonnedix’s short‑term power position across day‑ahead, intraday, and balancing markets to maximize portfolio value while ensuring operational reliability and compliance with risk limits. The role sits at the core of the trading function and requires continuous monitoring of market fundamentals—demand, renewable generation, weather forecasts, outages and price movements—to identify opportunities and manage imbalances in real time. Acting as a key interface between trading, dispatch, operations, asset management and risk teams, the role supports accurate nominations, efficient execution and reliable portfolio performance. The position is office based and operates on a rotating 8‑hour shift schedule to ensure continuous market coverage, including nights, weekends and public holidays.

The Short Term Trader leads real‑time trading and position‑management activities, ensuring accurate execution and effective coordination across internal stakeholders. The role also contributes to the continuous development of trading strategies, forecasting methodologies and analytical tools that improve decision making and commercial performance. Operating in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure environment, the position helps reduce imbalance costs, improve forecast accuracy and drive value creation across Sonnedix’s portfolio.

Required Skills

• Strong understanding of short‑term electricity markets including day‑ahead, intraday and balancing.
• Excellent analytical and numerical skills, able to interpret complex market data and make sound decisions.
• Ability to operate effectively in a fast‑paced environment and make decisions under pressure.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, working closely with trading, dispatch, operations and risk teams.
• Tech fluency, including forecasting or data‑analysis tools, Python and AI‑driven analytics and automation tools.
• High level of accountability, attention to detail and adaptability, with a continuous‑improvement mindset.

This range reflects the typical starting pay for new hires. Pay above this level may apply in specific circumstances based on experience, skills, or role scope.
