Mobility ITS Engineer

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is a junior‑mid level position that requires a balanced focus on technical and analytical delivery as well as collaborative facilitation across teams, business units and external partners. The role covers mobility innovation development and ITS/tolling technical support, with AI‑augmented working as the default method. It reports to the ITS Lead or the Head of CoE and may be assigned to specific projects requiring a complex matrix management structure. The role may involve national or regional travel and short‑term secondments abroad, including the US.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Business Unit Partnership: Partner with BU teams to identify innovation opportunities, co‑develop initiatives, and support operational adoption.
• Represent CoE4M: Lead workshops, project briefings and stakeholder outreach, translating BU needs into requirements.
• Cross‑team Coordination: Align initiatives with the wider Ferrovial Innovation team and cross‑pollinate findings across business lines.
• Technical Delivery: Run hands‑on data analysis, technology assessments and end‑to‑end prototypes, using AI tools as core working practice.
• Business Case Development: Build revenue, cost and risk models to support scoping and prioritisation decisions.
• Resource Coordination: Scope and coordinate internal and external resources for prototypes or initiatives requiring additional capability.
• ITS/Tolling Technical Support: Provide technical design input, cost estimates and budget quotes for ITS and tolling supporting bids and concessions.
• Market Intelligence & Scouting: Monitor and synthesize developments in data‑driven, automated and autonomous ITS/Tolling/mobility; evaluate vendors/OEMs/products and initiate engagement.
• Knowledge Sharing: Capture knowledge, contacts and ideas from workshops/events into written summaries for internal reuse and produce technology briefs, white papers and presentation materials.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Required degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Business or a related quantitative/technical discipline.
• 4+ years’ experience in an innovation, digital, technology, AI or data‑focused role within a corporate or consulting environment.
• 2+ years working directly with transport technologies and infrastructure (e.g. C‑ITS, tolling systems, traffic management systems, C‑V2X/V2X).
• Working knowledge of mobility data standards and formats relevant to analytics and system integration.
• Hands‑on fluency with AI tools beyond consumer chat interfaces, such as LLM APIs or agentic platforms (Anthropic, OpenAI, Copilot Studio); strong Python/SQL experience preferred.
• Demonstrated interest and working knowledge of connected/autonomous mobility, digital tolling and mobility analytics.
• Track record of project delivery with tangible outputs combining self‑led technical work and cross‑team collaboration.
• Comfort working across corporate, startup, public sector and innovation ecosystems.
• Fluent in MS Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, Copilot).
• Credible engagement with stakeholders at manager/director level.
• Desirable: Experience with Earth Observation data for infrastructure risk, construction monitoring or asset management; familiarity with Demand Responsive Transport systems, advanced comms infrastructure (5G, satellite), IoT sensor networks; exposure to VR/XR or quantum computing applications in optimisation.
• Business development, venturing or financial modelling experience or formal training is a plus.
• International professional experience.
• Excellent English required; professional Spanish highly desirable.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally; valid passport and driving licence (B1).
