One PreDoctoral Contract at the IAC ASTRI Mini Array PS-2026-060

The IAC (Tenerife, Spain) invites applications for one PhD fellowship in Astrophysics within the framework of the “ASTRI Mini Array” project, funded through an international agreement with INAF (Italy). The PhD project will be supervised by Drs. Alicia López Oramas and Josefa Becerra González. The selected candidate will be based at the IAC headquarters in La Laguna (Tenerife) in a stimulating research environment, where he or she will carry out scientific work within a specific and innovative project, leading to the award of a PhD degree.

Research Group and Areas

Candidate will join the “Particle Astrophysics” research group, which is part of major international collaborations in very high‑energy gamma rays (MAGIC, LST, CTAO, ASTRI). The group also focuses on multi‑frequency studies, allowing a comprehensive analysis of extreme processes in the Universe.

Research topics include:

• Solar Physics
• Planetary Systems
• Stellar and Interstellar Physics
• Galaxy Formation and Evolution
• Milky Way and Cosmology
• Astroparticle Physics

Qualifications

Applicants must have a degree in Physics or Mathematics that satisfies the admission requirements of the University of La Laguna (ULL) PhD Programme in astrophysics. Degrees may be MSc or undergraduate with at least 300 credits (ETCs), including 60 credits that are at MSc level. The required degree must have a score of 7.0 or higher (7.5 for bachelor + master), and must have been obtained on or since 31 January 2023.

Duration and Remuneration

Duration: two contracts that are yearly renewable (up to four years) following a positive evaluation of the student’s annual progress report.

• First and second years: 21,728.76 Euros.
• Third year: 22,918.06 Euros.
• Fourth year (without POP): 27,979.48 Euros.

Extra financial support: up to €2,500 for relocation costs, covering transport, accommodation, and daily allowance within specified categories. This grant is taxable income and tax will be retained.

Additional Conditions

Non‑EU citizens, if selected, must obtain the required residence permit and NIE card before signing the contract. Candidates residing in Tenerife at the time of application are not eligible for the relocation grant.
