We’re always pushing each other to go further because we believe that when we realize our potential, we can help others reach theirs.The opportunity:As Markel continues to drive its strategy to expand across Europe, we are looking to grow our Financial Lines team in Spain.As a Senior Financial Institutions Underwriter, you will havethe opportunity to develop, expand, and strengthen our Financial Institutions portfolio across Spain, Portugal, and Italy.What you’ll be doing:Underwriting and growing the Financial Institutions book of business profitably, within the dedicated regionEstablishing, developing, and expanding broker and customer relationshipsExtending and consolidating our footprint as a recognized insurance partner by assessing, proposing, and negotiating insurance conditions for large and midsize projects, with a primary focus on LiabilityWorking closely with our Madrid team regarding clients and brokersAssessing risks, coverage, terms, and conditions, driving related underwriting processesWorking closely with the General Manager of the Madrid office and the Liability department, to ensure development and profitability of the portfolioDeveloping the Underwriting strategy, guidelines, standards, processes and tools as well as developing new products and updating existing ones as requiredHandling the referral businessInteracting with other functions (Business Development, Technical Underwriting, Claims) across the businessChampioning continuous improvements and continually working with the team to improve end to end processes and data accuracyAttending regular broker and client meetings with some travel to represent Markel as requiredOur must-haves:Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multi-task, and make quick decsions while maintaining underwriting integrity and profitabilityProven experience in an Underwriting function and an understanding of the regional insurance marketEffective interpersonal skills as you collaborate with partners within Spain and Southern EuropeProactive approach to identifying new business opportunities with a strong focus on profitable growthFluency in Spanish, and good level of written and spoken English.
