The Role: Giving Soul to the Sequence

As a Mid-Level Layout Artist, you occupy a pivotal position in our pipeline. You take the vision of the Director and the Layout Supervisor and translate it into a technical reality that the Animation and Lighting departments can build upon. You are responsible for the “soul” of every sequence—ensuring that the staging and composition serve the narrative at the highest level.

Key Responsibilities

• Scene Orchestration: Interpret complex storyboards and animatics to block out scenes, establishing the initial 3D composition, character staging, and environment scale.

• Cinematic Execution: Work closely with the Layout Supervisor to ensure every shot aligns with the project’s artistic vision while maintaining narrative and visual consistency across the entire film.

• Cross-Department Synergy: Collaborate with Animation, Camera, and Art Direction teams to ensure technical feasibility and visual coherence.

• Creative Problem Solving: Propose innovative solutions for blocking challenges, camera animation hitches, and staging issues that arise during the transition from 2D to 3D.

• Optimization & Delivery: Ensure that sequences are not only visually stunning but also technically optimized for the downstream production pipeline.

• Pipeline Evolution: Actively contribute to the continuous improvement of our layout and previsualization tools, helping to streamline how we move from concept to final frame.

What We Are Looking For: The Experienced Professional

3 Doubles Producciones is seeking an artist who has moved beyond basic technical execution and has developed a deep, intuitive understanding of film language.

• Industry Experience: You have at least 2–3 years of professional experience in the 3D animation or VFX industry, specifically within a layout or previz role.

• Technical Mastery: High proficiency in Autodesk Maya is essential. You should be comfortable with camera rigs, lens settings, and basic animation principles.

• Cinematographic Eye: You have a strong grasp of cinematography principles—staging, lighting through composition, and visual storytelling are second nature to you.

• Analytical Thinking: You possess a strong eye for visual analysis and attention to detail. You can look at a storyboard and immediately identify the spatial requirements of the 3D set.

• Proactive Attitude: We value initiative. We want someone who doesn’t just “do the work” but looks for ways to make the sequence better.

• Bonus Skills: Knowledge of Python or experience with automation tools for Maya is a significant plus and will be highly valued.

• Communication: Technical English (written and spoken) is required, as we work with international partners and a diverse, global crew.
