Director of Delivery

The Director of Delivery is a strategic leader responsible for driving transformation across software development teams within a digital business. This role ensures the successful delivery of high-impact projects and programmes, while continuously improving processes to enhance efficiency, agility, and business value. The Director of Delivery will align technology initiatives with business objectives, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

What will you be doing?

Project & Programme Management

• Oversee the end-to-end delivery of complex, cross-functional projects and programmes, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

• Develop and maintain robust governance frameworks to track progress, mitigate risks, and ensure accountability across all delivery initiatives.

• Collaborate with stakeholders (e.g., product, engineering, business units) to prioritise initiatives and allocate resources effectively.

Process Improvement

• Identify inefficiencies in current delivery processes and lead initiatives to streamline workflows, reduce waste, and improve scalability.

• Implement metrics and KPIs to measure the success of delivery teams and the impact of process improvements.

• Foster a data-driven approach to decision-making, using insights to refine strategies and drive operational excellence.

Team Development & Collaboration

• Build, mentor, and inspire high-performing delivery teams, including project managers, scrum masters, and business analysts.

• Promote cross-functional collaboration between development, operations, and business teams to break down silos and improve alignment.

• Advocate for upskilling and reskilling opportunities to ensure teams are equipped with the latest tools, methodologies, and industry best practices.

Stakeholder Management

• Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, providing clear, actionable insights on delivery performance, risks, and opportunities.

• Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, ensuring transparency and buy-in for transformation initiatives.

• Represent the delivery function in executive forums, industry events, and client engagements as required.

Who are you?

• Essential Proven Experience: 10+ years in project and programme management, with a strong track record of delivering large-scale digital transformation initiatives in a software development environment.

• Methodologies: Deep expertise in Agile (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe), Waterfall, and hybrid delivery frameworks. Certification in PMP, PRINCE2, CSM, or similar is highly desirable.

• Process Improvement: Hands-on experience in designing and implementing process improvements (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma, or ITIL) to enhance delivery efficiency and quality.

• Technical Acumen : Understanding of modern software development practices, including CI/CD, DevOps, and cloud-native architectures.

• Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead and scale high-performing teams, with a focus on coaching, mentoring, and talent development.

• Stakeholder Management: Exceptional communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage and align diverse stakeholders at all levels.

• Desirable Experience in a digital-first business (e.g., fintech, e-commerce, SaaS) or a highly regulated industry.

• Knowledge of digital product lifecycle management and customer-centric delivery approaches.

• Familiarity with tools such as Jira, Confluence, Azure DevOps, or similar for project tracking and collaboration.
