Senior Exploration / Appraisal Geologist

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Exploration / Appraisal Geologist to join our Subsurface Team based in Madrid. The successful candidate will play a key role in identifying, evaluating, and maturing exploration and appraisal opportunities across an international portfolio of upstream oil and gas assets.

The position requires a strong technical background in petroleum geology, basin analysis, prospect generation, resource assessment, and field appraisal. The candidate will work closely with geophysicists, reservoir engineers, petrophysicists, drilling teams, and management to support exploration, appraisal, business development, and field development activities.

This is an excellent opportunity for a geologist with a proven track record in both exploration and appraisal projects who wishes to contribute to the growth of a dynamic international E&P company.

Key Responsibilitie

sExploration Activitie

• sLead geological evaluations of exploration opportunities across multiple basins and play types
• .Identify, mature, and rank exploration leads and prospects
• .Conduct basin analysis, petroleum systems evaluation, and play fairway assessments
• .Integrate geological, geophysical, petrophysical, and geochemical data to reduce subsurface uncertainty
• .Evaluate source rock, reservoir, seal, and trap effectiveness
• .Support acreage evaluations, licensing rounds, and new venture opportunities

.Appraisal & Resource Maturatio

• nPlan and execute appraisal programs to reduce reservoir and volumetric uncertainties
• .Assess reservoir continuity, compartmentalization, and field development implications
• .Support resource maturation from discovery through development planning
• .Contribute to reserves and contingent resources evaluations
• .Participate in field development studies and FDP preparation

.Prospect Generation & Risk Assessmen

• tGenerate and mature exploration prospects from regional screening to drill-ready status
• .Perform geological chance of success assessments
• .Conduct volumetric evaluations and uncertainty analyses
• .Prepare prospect risking and resource estimates according to industry standards

.Well Planning & Operations Suppor

• tProvide geological input for exploration and appraisal well planning
• .Support well trajectory design and location selection
• .Participate in drilling operations, wellsite decision-making, and post-well evaluations
• .Analyze well results and update geological models accordingly

.Integrated Subsurface Studie

• sWork closely with geophysicists on seismic interpretation and structural framework development
• .Collaborate with reservoir engineers and petrophysicists to build integrated reservoir models
• .Participate in multidisciplinary asset teams supporting exploration and development projects

.Business Development & M&A Suppor

• tEvaluate farm-in, farm-out, acquisition, and divestment opportunities
• .Conduct technical due diligence on upstream assets and exploration portfolios
• .Support commercial teams during asset valuation exercises
• .Present technical recommendations to senior management and investment committees

.Technical Leadershi

• pMentor junior geologists and contribute to technical excellence initiatives
• .Promote best practices in geological interpretation and resource assessment
• .Participate in peer reviews and technical assurance processes
