Senior Engineer/Strong Middle Scala Engineer

Location: Remote from Spain (an indefinite Spanish employment contract)
Intellias is partnering with a Fortune 100, Midwest-based industrial manufacturer to modernize and expand a suite of cloud-based services and data products used by a global network of dealers, enterprise customers, and internal business units. Our cross-functional teams deliver scalable APIs, event-driven services, and analytics pipelines that power quoting, ordering, asset telemetry, diagnostics, and lifecycle support for heavy equipment in the field.
Requirements:
Mandatory
3+ years of experience with Scala
designing, developing, deploying, and maintaining backend services and distributed systems in production.
8+ years of software engineering experience (preferrably Java)
3+ years
of experience building distributed systems using
Akka (Streams, Actors, Persistence)
or
Apache Pekko
.
3+ years
of experience with
AWS
Strong experience designing and operating event-driven distributed systems using technologies such as
Kafka,
AWS Kinesis, or
equivalent messaging platforms.
Strong
experience
with
functional programming concepts and libraries such as
Cats
,
Cats Effect, or ZIO.
Hands-on experience with
Docker
.
Strong
experience
with
PostgreSQL
and
SQL
query development.
Experience with
CI/CD tools
and automated deployment pipelines (preferably
GitHub Actions
).
Experience designing and operating event-driven architectures and stream-processing systems.
Experience with microservice architectures.
Experience working within Agile software development environments.
Strong understanding of software architecture and solution design.
Strong ownership mindset with the ability to independently drive complex technical initiatives.
Nice to have:
Experience with Java 17+/21.

Experience with DynamoDB.
Experience with CloudFormation.
Experience with Flyway.

Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Scala.
Build reliable event-processing, notification, and integration services.
Develop APIs and distributed system components in highly available environments.
Deliver scalable, fault-tolerant solutions that provide business value.
Contribute to system architecture, technical design, and engineering decisions.
Troubleshoot complex production issues and perform root-cause analysis.
Support integration, acceptance, and quality assurance testing activities.
Maintain high software quality through testing, reviews, documentation, and best practices.
Mentor engineers and promote technical excellence within the team.
Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders in Agile environments.
Own services throughout their lifecycle, from design and development to deployment and production support.
Ability to provide
6 hours overlap with US Central Time (CT)
on business days (till 2 pm CT latest), which is equivalent to working
until 9 PM Spainish time.
