Senior Data Architect, Scientific Data Platform

Agilent seeks a Senior Data Architect to design the discovery and access layers of a scientific data platform serving pharmaceutical, food, and environmental testing markets. The role involves defining catalog and access path architecture, owning schemas and contracts, and collaborating with engineering teams to implement federated GraphQL-based data services.

Responsibilities

• Define target state architecture for catalog and access paths with service boundaries, contracts, and integration patterns
• Own and version schemas for catalog records, GraphQL subgraph boundaries, and data service views
• Design access controls and provenance tracking for AI agent data consumption
• Establish query performance targets and design pipelines to maintain catalog and search index currency
• Collaborate directly with engineering teams to clarify designs, review implementation plans, and document decisions

Requirements

• 8+ years in software engineering, data engineering, or architecture with distributed systems experience
• Proven track record defining architecture ahead of finalized standards and governance
• Production system architecture ownership in data catalogs, search indexing, federated APIs, or scientific data layers
• SQL proficiency with PostgreSQL or SQL Server, including execution plan analysis
• Experience building and operating data pipelines with recovery and backfill capabilities
• Code reading ability in typed languages (C#, Java, TypeScript) and proof-of-concept development
• Daily use of AI tools in architecture and data work with demonstrated processes for delegation and verification
