Systems Engineer/DevOps Eng, ESC Managed Operations

AWS has successfully launched the European Sovereign Cloud (ESC), marking a significant development in Utility Computing (UC). The AWS Managed Operations team seeks experienced systems engineers with a strong background in automation and operations to build, operate, and evolve teams dedicated to delivering high‑availability services such as EC2, S3, Dynamo, Lambda, and Bedrock, exclusively for EU customers.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the ongoing operations and expansion of the ESC, collaborating with global AWS teams and influencing the evolution of AWS services and technologies.
• Contribute to day‑to‑day operations, ensuring continuous improvements in availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency.
• Participate in on‑call rotations to resolve out‑of‑hours incidents and maintain 24x7 service availability.
• Assess operational health, identify anomalies, draft actionable bug reports, and address operational backlog.
• Develop and test scripts to enhance workflows and support operational excellence.
• Educate service teams on European Sovereign Cloud concepts and best practices.

Eligibility

• Fluency in written and spoken English.
• Nationality of an EU member state and residency within the EU.
• Relocation support available for successful applicants relocating within the EU.
• Participation in an on‑call rota.

Basic Qualifications

• Experience in Linux OS and network troubleshooting, or networking administration and troubleshooting.
• Experience in Python, Perl, or another scripting language.
• Experience in systems engineering, site reliability engineering, and operating systems at scale.
• National of an EU member state.
• Ability to lead the creation, revision, and improvement of standard operational procedures (SOPs) and drive operational best practices.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with monitoring frameworks such as CloudWatch, Datadog, Grafana, Elastic, or similar.
• Experience mentoring junior engineers and leading cross‑organizational strategic team efforts.
• Experience operating 24x7 high‑availability distributed software applications and tuning performance.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (CDK, CloudFormation, Puppet, Chef, Ansible, or similar).
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and Generative AI technologies, including automated deployment, configuration management, continuous integration workflows, prompt engineering, model deployment, and AI‑powered automation tools.
